Eight of the best teams in the planet are ready to contest in Budapest (HUN) the FINA Women’s Water Polo Super Final, taking place in the Magyar capital from June 4-9, 2019. The eight participating teams include the best of the Intercontinental Cup – United States, Australia, China and Canada -, but also the strongest European representatives – Netherlands, Russia, Hungary and Italy.

The squad to beat in Hungary will undoubtedly be the United States, 2012 and 2016 Olympic champion, 2015 and 2017 gold world medallist, and winner of the World League on 12 occasions! The US team present in Budapest includes nine reigning Olympic champions, including Maggie Steffens and Melissa Siedemann, who pocketed the historic title twice.

Netherlands and Russia, respectively second and third of last year’s edition will most probably be the challengers to the US supremacy, while Italy, Olympic runner-up in 2016, will also try to impose its credentials. Canada, second in the 2017 World League edition, and Australia, bronze at the 2012 London Games and third in the 2016 World League, are also strong assets. Finally, China (winner in 2013) and Hungary can be the surprising outsiders of the Super Final.

The competition will take place in the iconic Duna Arena, main stage of the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest and host of the recent leg of the “FINA Champions Swim Series”.

The format and the schedule of the 2019 FINA Women’s Water Polo World League Super Final in Budapest is standard, featuring two pools for the round robin stage, and a standard play-off chart for the finals.
