WELL DONE TO THE NEW ZEALAND SWIMMING TEAM WHO COMPETED AT THE 2019 FINA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN GWANGJU LAST MONTH

Well done to all of our New Zealand swimmers who competed at the 2019 FINA World Championships last month in Gwangju, South Korea. Matthew Stanley, Bradlee Ashby, Zac Reid, Daniel Hunter, Ali Galyer, Chelsey Edwards, Eve Thomas, Michael Pickett, Lewis Clareburt, Carina Doyle and Erika Fairweather all swam in various swimming events over the competition.

The highlight of the competition was on the last day when Lewis Clareburt won bronze in the Men’s 400m Individual Medley, placing third in the World. Clareburt also broke the New Zealand Open Record, he swam a time of 4:12.07 seconds. Ali Galyer made a semi-final in the Women’s 200m Backstroke, she placed 12th in the World.

New Zealand had athletes in the top 20 of 7 individual events. 15-year-old Erika Fairweather, who made her debut at this year’s World’s came top 20 in both of her events, the 200 and 400m Freestyle.

Zac Reid Wins Silver at the 2019 FINA World Cup series in Tokyo
Zac Reid was amongst three New Zealanders who took part in the Tokyo Series of the FINA Swimming World Cup over the weekend. Reid went in as the fastest 400m Freestyle swimmer out of a field of 34 swimmers from around the world and he came second overall, taking the silver medal.

Wilrich Coetzee Wins Bronze at the 2019 FINA World Cup series in Jinan.
Wilrich Coetzee went against 13 swimmers from around the world. He came third, winning bronze in theMen’s 200m Butterfly last weekend at the Jinan Series of the FINA Swimming World Cup where he swam a time of 2:00.14 seconds.

NEW ZEALAND OPEN RECORDS
This past month has seen four New Zealand Open Records broken by NZ athletes at various events. Breanna Crawford broke the short course open record in theWomen’s 100m Breaststroke in July at the 2019 Evolution Winter Championships.

Lewis Clareburt broke the record for the Men’s 400 IM when he won bronze at the 2019 FINA World Championships last month. World Champs also saw a new record for the Men’s 4 x 200m Freestyle Relay, which was broken by Lewis Clareburt, Matthew Stanley, Daniel Hunter and Zac Reid.

Zac Reid then broke the short course open record in the Men’s 800m Freestyle at the 2019 Bay of Plenty Short Course Champs.
